What is a Zip Line Brake Block?
A zip line brake block is one of the most essential components of a zip line, it's purpose is to slow the rider to a stop before the second anchor. The brake block is just that- a block that has a slim hole in it that the zip line slips through. it looks similar to this ------[ ]------. The brake block screws tightly onto the zip line cable and a bungee cord attaches to the bottom of it through an eyelet. As the trolley makes contact with the brake block the force stretches the bungee and slows the rider to a stop. The bungee generally attaches to a tree or anchor that is placed towards the end of the zip line. Many people have also come with their own brake block designs, some using car tires and other strange rubbery objects. Check out this video:
